A welder who worked on one of Lyle and Marie McCann's vehicles may help the RCMP develop new leads in the disappearance of the St Albert couple.

The disappearance of the McCann's took a very sinister turn when their burned out motor home was discovered in the Hinton area in July, 2010. Investigators then recovered at another location the couple's 2006 Hyundai Tucson suv that had been towed behind the 1999 Gulfstream Voyager RV.

RCMP Tim Taniguchi won't say why, but police are trying to locate a local welder.

"We're looking for specifically a welder, who may have done welding modifications to a tow bar of an A-frame towing assembly which was utilized on the McCann's RV,  a 1999 Gulf Stream Voyager, which was used to tow a 2006 Hyundai Tucson."

Taniguchi adds, this welder could be the key to a break in the case. "(RCMP) needs to speak to (the welder), the person is considered a witness in some fashion and we need to shore up this investigational point."

It's believed the work was completed in the Edmonton area sometime after March 31st, 2010 but before the couple left St Albert towing the SUV behind their motorhome in early July.

If you can help, call the RCMP in St Albert at 458-4300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). (em, lk)
