these two pics are an example of a welders hire test. all welders on a "coded" job must take a qualification test. (hands on test. you have to show that you can weld.)

the first picture is an example of a pipe test. i will post a few more pics. these can be a little confusing.

the second pic is a sample that has been taken from a piece of plate that has been welded and then has been cut out of the plate and prepared for a destructive test. we take the sample and bend it to see if the welder has physically welded the sample correctly. the short and long is if it bends with out cracking or tearing he has passed and is a qualified welder. the pipe test has to be tested by radiograhp (X-ray).

ill post some more pics later next week. we have some new welders that will be testing on just about all of the materials that we work with in all of the test positions. i will take some video of the bend tests and post them on you tube, then on here.

i know that this type of welding doesnt relate to gyros but its a glimpse into the world of heavy industrial welding. soon we will have some automated (orbital tig and fluxcore) machines on site and i will have some cool stuff to post on those joint configurations and finished welds also
