Are you a welder? Get to know the hazards and how to avoid them ...

These are the main risks associated with welding.

  • Thermal : flying sparks, hot pieces, high temperature.
  • Radiation: ultraviolet radiation, infrared rays, blue light.
  • Chemical: gas, vapours, fumes.
  • Electric: electric shock, short circuit, overload.
  • Mechanical: handling of equipment, cranes, forklifts. Handling of pieces to weld/cut. Slag projection during slag removal.
  • Acoustic: noise caused by welding and noise in the workplace.
  • Explosion and fire: gas and flammable substances in the work area, flammable materials in the work area, gas leaks, cylinders accidentally falling because wrongly fixed, incorrect opening/closure of gas valves.
