What make is it, firebug?
Have you looked inside to check for any obvious loose connections?
If there's nothing loose, and you've checked all the obvious things like return earth clamp connections, it might be some of the diodes have gone on the rectifier pack.
If a few were still working you would get output, but not enough to weld with.
